9SE DG Nancy Slack

9SE DG Nancy Slack and husband Mark joined the Melcher-Dallas Lions in 1999. They served in District 9X5 and 9SE together for almost 11 years before Mark died. Nancy and Mark both served as their club president and zone chairs and attended the 2nd annual Great Plains Lions Leadership Institute.

DG Nancy had a rare opportunity to serve as a part of the volunteer medical staff at Camp Hertko Hollow, a camp for diabetic children, in three teen summer sessions from 2007 to 2013.

Nancy previously served as District Governor for 9SE in 2010-2011. Nancy was an Iowa Lions Foundation Trustee 2011-2013 and also served as Global Leadership Team Coordinator for 9SE for five years.

DG Nancy has attended the past nine USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forums, volunteered at a couple of recent forums and graduated with a Masters Degree from Lions University in its inaugural year. She is currently working on her Doctorate Degree.

For her home club, she served as treasurer for a few years and continues to serve as club secretary. She has worked for the past 12 years with the Melcher-Dallas Dollars for Scholars, which is sponsored by the Melcher-Dallas Lions Club.

DG Nancy has received an International Leadership Medal from International President Jimmy Ross and an International President’s Award from International President Barry Palmer. She is a Progressive Warren Coleman Honorary Award recipient.

Nancy has two daughters and a son, as well as a granddaughter and five grandsons.

In Mark’s absence, her loving sister Lion Susan Mikesell serves as her Partner-in-Service.

DG Nancy is a retired Certified Medical Assistant. She loves to spend time with her family and work for the LIONS.

“Lions is my passion,” says Nancy. “I look forward to helping Lions of District 9SE wherever I can to help all of us provide needed services.”

Most recently she has raised a yellow Labrador puppy, Buddy, for Leader Dogs for the Blind. Doing this in memory of her blind grandmother … a definite connection and reason to be a LION. She is currently awaiting a second leader dog puppy to raise.
